I first read about this little guy on Mashable. He apparently goes by the name of Shruggie….which is pretty darn adorable. Motivated by this adorableness (and the super handy ability to graphically convey a shrug), I spent ten minutes adding Shruggie to my keyboard shortcuts.
And, man, have I used Shruggie. It’s only been a few days, but Shruggie has certainly come in handy, my friends. But, more than just a really fun way to use symbols and punctuation marks, Shruggie is kind of a way of life.
No wait, hear me out here. Life is weirdly awesome and beautiful and crazy. But sometimes it’s just crazy and sometimes it gets hard and sometimes we let the little things get under our skin and we stop realizing the crazy beautifulness of it all. You get too busy. A friend cancels last minute. A backhanded comment gets thrown your way. Your dog gets into the garbage. Your kid decides to wear their sassy pants today. You miss a deadline. All these things add up and whamo…it’s a bad day.
But not if you embrace the Shruggie. Because, really, these are all little things. You will face disappointments and rejections and failures. Life, however, is still beautiful, even when someone is thoughtless. Things are still awesome even when your dog gets in the garbage and you feel sad, and you miss a deadline and you have a thousand things on your to do list.
There are big, hard things in life that can’t be solved with a shrug. But for the most part, be happy, live simply, be kind to others and find a passion.
As for the little things…
